WHAT WE DO

1. Project Niramaya The project was undertaken with a mission of enlightening the slum-dwelling women and housewives of the countryside about preventive health care and first aid services. A series of orientation programmes of three months’ duration each could be organized with well designed syllabi and with the support of a team of doctors, medical practitioners and the office of the Joint Director, Health, Govt. of Assam.

2. Project Saarthak Jeevan during the 2nd part of the decade by providing academic and career counseling to the students of secondary to graduate standards by inviting expert counselors from different institutions. A series of awareness programmes and counselling sessions have been organised by the NGO on different themes at different points of time and for different target groups. Some of them are worth mentioning:

  • Sensitisation programme on stress management for SSB Jawans
  • Awareness against witch killing and other inherent superstition in the society.
  • Sensitisation programme on prohibition
  • Awareness camp on RTI and Human Rights Acts for students and senior citizens.
  • Health and environment awareness camp
  • Awareness on organic cultivation.
  • Workshop on micro credit and insurance scheme of banks and LIC.
  • Financial literacy programme for SHGs.
  • 3. Project Naari Shakti whereby, the organization initiated formation of SHGs for developing the scope of self-employment and entrepreneurship generation among the women in slum and fringe area of Bongaigaon district. Exploring the possibility of skill formation for them and arranging for SHG-bank linkage for micro-finance aggravated the process of organizing the women for empowerment in real sense of the term. A series of skill development training and workshop has been organised by NEEF on various occasions in collaboration with funding agencies and also on self sustained efforts as follows:

  • Training on carpet manufacturing and diversified jute products.
  • Workshop on creative designing.
  • Workshop and training programme on weaving and tailoring.
  • Summer camp on skill and personality development for women empowerment.
  • 4. Formations of Youth Cell and Teen Clubs under the banner of NEEF are some other activities to involve and nourish human capital for promoting and sustaining the urban development of the district. The significance of this can be understood by the fact that a strong and effective network is the bedrock of strong and effective participation. It is through such networks that NEEF can voice the concern for the community, learn from others and share their knowledge. More importantly, it welcomes collective decision-making by inviting and incorporating comments and suggestions from the readers, corporate bodies and other NGOs for greater degree of inspiration, dedication and commitment.
